Line Up Close and Personal: Lawrence Andrews, Head of Content

Posted by: Lawrence Andrews on October 29th, 2014 IN Fun stuff

Welcome to another post in our new ‘Line Up Close and Personal’ blog series, where you can get to know our wonderful team on a more personal level. Our dry-humoured Head of Content, Lawrence, has stepped up to talk about his interests in and outside of work. Read on to find out what makes him tick (and to find out what Vexillology is)…

Line Up - Larry - October 2014 4What three adjectives do you think your friends would use to describe you?
Thirsty. Amusing. Heroic.

Apart from working at Line Up, what are your other passions?
Curries beginning with B, collecting motorcycles that I don’t ride and The LEGO Movie.

Who would you invite to your ideal dinner party (dead or alive) and why?
I’d like my two sons to meet their great grandma…and I’d invite Russell Brand, just so my Nan could kick him in the nuts. And I think I’d ask Rusty Lee to do the cooking.

Do you support a football team?
I support a different team every year; I just like to mix it up. This year I chose Crewe and they are now bottom of League One. I don’t think it’s my fault.

What has been your highlight working at Line Up?
There have been many highlights as I’ve been lucky enough to film in some memorable places. Shooting in the Arctic was a great experience, as was shooting helicopter sequences around a lighthouse 11 miles off the coast of Scotland. However it’s the people that make all these experiences memorable, so my highlights have to be working with the people and teams here over the last 8 years. They have made it all great fun.

What are your three all-time favourite songs?

1.  Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher – Jackie Wilson

2. I Won’t Get Fooled Again – The Who

3.You Can’t Always Get What You Want – Rolling Stones

British Band 'The Who'

What was the first record you ever bought?

The Final Countdown – Europe.

Do you have any unusual hobbies and interests?

Vexillology is the scientific study of the symbolism of flags. I’m not interested in this at all, however I do have a useless collection of Lonely Planet and Rough Guide books for places I have visited once. Even though I know I will never read them again, I still keep them on my bookshelf. I have a feeling I’m not the only person who does this.

What’s been your greatest achievement outside work?

The obvious answer is my 2 sons, who keep me young and remind me what it means to try and have fun all the time. The less obvious answer is painting over the yellow lines so we have more parking spaces at the office.

Where’s your favourite place to go on holiday and why?

Devon. Because when it rains you are not really that disappointed.

What’s your favourite ever TV ad?

Last year’s Somersby cider advert stands out for me. It’s just a clever concept and great script.

Who would you least like to be stuck in a lift with?

The panel of judges from ‘Hottest Curry in the World Competition’ after a full day of Jalfrezi judging.

What’s top of your ‘bucket list’ of things you really want to do in life?

I want to travel with my family once my sons are old enough to really enjoy it. On the list will be skiing somewhere beautiful and driving a safari somewhere safe. My other dream is to race cars in some form, taking part in a championship for enthusiasts on a budget.

What kind of car do you drive?

An automatic. It’s just more relaxing.
